Move a KDS Item Back
Move a visible kitchen item on the KDS board back by one production stage with the horizontal row gesture, for example from Ready to Preparing or from Preparing to Sent.
In this article
Use this when a kitchen item has been advanced too far during live service and needs to return to the previous KDS stage without opening the ticket editor.
The action runs from the KDS board for Harbor Soho. Antylogic updates the selected ticket item, refreshes the board, and keeps the change guarded by the status that was visible when the operator swiped.
Before you start
- Harbor Demo Group and the Harbor Soho location are selected.
- KDS is enabled in TPV settings and a service is active for the location.
- The ticket is open, belongs to the active service, and is visible on the KDS board.
- The item uses the kitchen flow and is currently sent, preparing, or ready. Draft has no previous stage.
- The operator has kds:use or kds:manage. With only kds:view, the board can be viewed but the row cannot be operated.
Instructions
- 1.
Open the KDS board
Go to /:orgId/:locationId/kds for Harbor Soho. The board loads the active service, open tickets, staff labels and table labels, then groups kitchen-relevant items by production status.
- 2.
Choose the item to correct
Find the item that was moved too far forward. Use the action only for items in sent, preparing, or ready; served and cancelled items are not shown for this KDS correction flow.
- 3.
Swipe towards the previous stage
Swipe the item row horizontally towards the start of the row, which is rightwards in the current KDS layout. The row reveals the previous-stage icon; release the swipe once that action is fully revealed.
- 4.
Wait for the board to refresh
Antylogic sends the selected item id, the status shown on screen, and the previous target status to the production-status endpoint. The item then appears in the previous stage, or leaves the visible board if filters exclude the new status.
- 5.
Check side effects
If the item moves back to sent, Antylogic can enqueue new kitchen_order output jobs for configured kitchen or KDS devices. Moving back to draft or preparing does not enqueue those jobs.
Validations and limits
- The valid backward moves are sent to draft, preparing to sent, and ready to preparing.
- A row cannot be moved back when it is busy, when there is no previous stage, or when the operator lacks kds:use or kds:manage.
- The implemented KDS client uses POST /api/app/{orgId}/{locationId}/tickets/{ticketId}/items/production-status; the backend also accepts PUT for the same operation.
- The from_statuses guard can prevent an update if another terminal changed the item before the swipe completed, without showing a specific conflict message.
- If KDS is disabled, there is no active service, or the ticket is closed or void, the board does not present an operable item for this action.
- If the target status is filtered out, the update can succeed while the item disappears from the current board view.
Expected result
The selected KDS item is moved back by one production stage and the board refreshes around the new ticket item state.
