How to open a till
Open the current POS terminal till during an active service, record the opening float and make the drawer available for payments and later cash reconciliation.
In this article
Opening the till is part of the live POS service workflow. At Harbor Soho, the operator starts from the POS floor view, opens the cash register panel and records the cash placed in the drawer before taking payments.
The till belongs to the current service session and the terminal calculated for the signed-in user. That keeps cash control terminal-specific and prevents the same terminal from opening a duplicate till for the same service.
Before you start
- The operator is signed in to Harbor Demo Group with Harbor Soho as the active location.
- The operator has the location permission `tpv:use`.
- A service session is already open for Harbor Soho, such as Soho lunch service.
- The POS can identify the current terminal for the signed-in user.
- If staff access is required by PIN, selector or card, Olivia Hart is selected before using the POS workspace.
- There is no open cash register session for the same service session and current terminal.
Instructions
- 1.
Open the POS floor view
Go to the Harbor Soho POS floor view. The screen loads the active service, the current terminal and any open tills for that service. If the staff selector appears, select Olivia Hart so the workspace is available.
- 2.
Open the cash register panel
Use the POS service actions menu and choose the cash register option. In the GB demo capture, controls may appear as `Más acciones del TPV`, `Caja`, `Fondo inicial` and `Abrir caja`; follow the labels that are visible in the app.
- 3.
Enter the opening float
Enter the cash placed in the drawer at the start of service, for example £50.00. Antylogic accepts standard currency input, rounds it to two decimal places and does not allow a negative amount.
- 4.
Open the till
Press Open till. The app creates an open cash register session for the active service and current terminal, records the selected staff member when one is active, and uses the opening float as the initial expected cash amount.
- 5.
Check the open till state
After the request succeeds, the POS refreshes the till data. The panel shows the till as open, expected cash starts from the opening float, closing controls become available and the service remains blocked from closing while any till is still open.
Validations and limits
- The POS workspace and backend both require `tpv:use` for the current location.
- The action is only available from the POS workspace when a service session is open.
- The current terminal is required; missing or invalid terminal data blocks the action.
- The opening float must be a valid non-negative amount, and the backend validates it again before creating the till.
- The service session must belong to the current location and must still be open.
- A second open till for the same service session and terminal is rejected; an open till on another terminal does not block this terminal.
- The service cannot be closed while any cash register session remains open.
Expected result
The current terminal has an open till for the active service. The £50.00 opening float is recorded, expected cash starts from that float, and the till is ready for payments and later closing.
