Set the kitchen output device
Choose the default kitchen printer or KDS output for Harbor Soho from POS settings so future kitchen orders use the right output first.
In this article
Use this guide when Harbor Soho already has output devices and you need to choose which kitchen printer or KDS output should receive kitchen orders by default.
The setting is edited from POS settings on the General tab. It does not create output devices; it only saves the default kitchen output in the location TPV settings.
Before you start
- Harbor Demo Group is selected and Harbor Soho is the active location.
- The operator has location permission `tpv:manage`. With only `tpv:view`, the settings can be viewed but the selector and save action stay disabled.
- Harbor Soho already has an eligible output device: a kitchen printer, or a KDS output while KDS is enabled.
- If the intended output is a KDS device, keep `Enable KDS` switched on before saving.
Instructions
- 1.
Open POS settings
Open Harbor Soho and go to `/:orgId/:locationId/location/tpv`. Stay on the General tab; the kitchen output field is in the default printers section, not in the output-device management workflow.
- 2.
Check KDS status
Review `Enable KDS` before choosing the output. Kitchen printers are always offered by the selector; KDS devices appear only while KDS is enabled.
- 3.
Choose the kitchen output
Open `Kitchen printer` and choose `Not configured`, a kitchen printer, or an available KDS device. Use `Not configured` when the location should not force a default kitchen output.
- 4.
Save changes
Select `Save changes`. Antylogic saves the selected device with the rest of the POS settings for Harbor Soho and uses it first when routing future kitchen orders.
Validations and limits
- Saving requires `tpv:manage`; `tpv:view` is read-only for this screen.
- If no organisation or location is selected, the POS settings form does not load.
- An empty selection is valid and is saved as no `default_kitchen_output_device_id`.
- The normal UI offers devices with `device_kind` equal to `kitchen_printer`, plus `kds` only when KDS is enabled.
- Turning off KDS hides KDS options and clears the selected kitchen output if that output is a KDS device.
- The backend validates that a selected device belongs to the same location, but it does not validate the device kind; the normal UI applies that restriction.
- An inactive device can be saved, but later kitchen job routing ignores inactive devices and falls back to active kitchen outputs.
Expected result
Harbor Soho keeps a default kitchen output in POS settings. Future kitchen-order dispatch tries that active device first, then falls back to active kitchen printers and, when KDS is enabled, active KDS outputs.
