Assign role permissions

Replace the complete permission set on an existing organisation role or Harbor Soho location role from the role detail screen.

In this article

Use this guide when an administrator needs to change what an existing access role allows. The selected rows in the permission table are saved as the role's new complete permission set.

Changing a role's permissions affects users who already have that role, but it does not assign roles to users or create new permissions. Organisation roles and location roles are edited inside their own scope.

Before you start

  • You are signed in with Harbor Demo Group selected.
  • For the location flow, Harbor Soho is the active location.
  • You can open an existing editable role from the Roles tab or from a contextual role link.
  • The permissions catalogue for the active organisation or location has loaded.
  • At least one permission remains selected before saving.

Instructions

  1. 1.

    Open the role detail

Open Access management, switch to the Roles tab and choose View or Edit for the role you want to update. Use the organisation access area for a Harbor Demo Group role, or the location access area for a Harbor Soho role.

  2. 2.

    Review the current permissions

Check the selected rows in the permissions table. The table is limited to permissions that match the role scope, and search or pagination can narrow the rows before you choose the final set.

  3. 3.

    Choose the final permission set

Tick or untick permission rows until the selected rows match the full access this role should grant. Any permission left unchecked is removed from the role after saving.

  4. 4.

    Save the changes

Select Save. If only permissions changed, Antylogic updates the permission list directly. If the name or description also changed, the role details are saved first and the permission list is replaced afterwards.

  5. 5.

    Confirm the result

After the update succeeds, the app shows Role updated and returns to the Roles list for the same organisation or location scope.

Validations and limits

  • You need permission view access to open the detail and permission management access to save changes.
  • The Save action stays disabled until the role has a name, at least one permission is selected and something has changed.
  • Roles outside the editable scope, including system or predefined global roles, can be shown as read-only and cannot be saved from this screen.
  • Organisation and location roles use separate editable scopes; a Harbor Soho role cannot be edited from the organisation role endpoint or from another location.
  • The normal UI prevents duplicate selections and prevents saving an empty permission set.
  • This action does not create permissions, change the permission catalogue or assign roles to users.

Expected result

The role keeps its existing user assignments, but its saved permission set is replaced. Users who already have the role receive the updated effective access the next time permissions are evaluated.
