View Item Note

Shows the saved note attached to a visible KDS item so kitchen operators can read preparation instructions without changing the ticket, item, or production status.

In this article

Use this guide when a Harbor Soho kitchen item shows the Notes indicator on the KDS board. Opening the note is read-only: it reveals the saved item note and does not move the item through production.

The item row must already be visible on the KDS board. Closed or void tickets, served or cancelled items, and items hidden by active status filters cannot be expanded from this screen.

Before you start

  • Harbor Demo Group and the Harbor Soho location are selected.
  • KDS is enabled for Harbor Soho and there is an active service session.
  • The operator has KDS access through `kds:view`, `kds:use`, or `kds:manage`.
  • The KDS board contains an open ticket with a kitchen-relevant item in `draft`, `sent`, `preparing`, or `ready` status.
  • The item has a saved note with visible text after spaces are trimmed.

Instructions

  1. 1.

    Open the KDS board

Open Harbor Soho KDS from `/:orgId/:locationId/kds` or the KDS deep link. The board appears only after the app confirms the selected organisation, selected location, KDS access, KDS settings, and active service session.

  2. 2.

    Find an item with Notes

Look for a visible item row with the Notes indicator. The current UI renders this indicator as `Notas`. Items without a non-empty note do not show this action.

  3. 3.

    Tap the item row

Tap the item row once. A Note panel opens below the row; the current UI title is `Nota`. The panel shows the saved item note after leading and trailing spaces are trimmed.

  4. 4.

    Close the note

Tap the same row again to hide the note panel. Opening and closing the panel only changes the local KDS display; it does not change the ticket, item, or production status.

Validations and limits

  • If KDS is disabled, no active service session exists, or the operator lacks KDS access, the board is blocked before item rows appear.
  • The item must be in the visible KDS set: an open ticket, kitchen-relevant item, status `draft`, `sent`, `preparing`, or `ready`, and currently included by the active status filters.
  • The note panel appears only when `ticket_items.notes` contains non-empty text after trimming.
  • A user with only `kds:view` can open notes on visible rows; `kds:use` and `kds:manage` apply to production swipes, not note expansion.
  • A board refresh that changes the item id or note text can collapse an open note.

Expected result

The kitchen can read the item-level preparation note directly on the KDS board and return to the normal row view without changing production status or editing the ticket.
