Select a catalog for a service

Choose the operational catalog used by a public service so bookings, POS and day-to-day service work from the correct Harbor Soho menu.

In this article

Use this guide when a customer-facing service needs the right menu attached before it is used for bookings or POS. In the GB demo, Harbor Soho can assign Soho Menu to the Soho lunch service.

Public services need both a Layout and a Catalog. Internal services deliberately hide those operational fields and do not send a catalog value.

Before you start

  • You are working in the correct organisation and location, for example Harbor Demo Group and Harbor Soho.
  • You can manage services for the location.
  • At least one catalog is available for the location, for example Soho Menu.
  • At least one layout is available, because public services require both Layout and Catalog before they can be saved.

Instructions

  1. 1.

    Open the service form

Open the services calendar for the location, then create a service or edit an existing one from the calendar.

  2. 2.

    Keep customer-facing services public

Leave Visibility set to Public for services that take bookings or run through POS. Public services show Layout, Catalog and Optimization in the Info tab.

  3. 3.

    Review the default Catalog value

When catalogs are available, the form sorts them by name and selects the default catalog first. Check whether Soho Menu is already selected for Harbor Soho.

  4. 4.

    Choose the service menu

Open the Catalog selector and choose the menu that matches the service. For the Soho lunch service, choose Soho Menu.

  5. 5.

    Save the service

Save once the title, time range, Layout and Catalog are complete. The selected catalog is stored as catalog_id inside the service event payload.

  6. 6.

    Handle internal or recurring services

Use Internal only for services that should not use booking or POS resources. If the service is recurring, choose whether the change applies to one service or future services.

Validations and limits

  • A public service cannot be saved without both Layout and Catalog.
  • The title is required, and the start time must be before the end time.
  • The Catalog selector only lists catalogs available to the current location; it does not create new catalogs.
  • If Visibility is Internal, Layout, Catalog and Optimization are hidden and catalog_id is not sent.
  • A service that has already started is locked for editing.
  • If the operator cannot manage services, the app shows a permissions message instead of allowing changes.

Expected result

The service uses the selected catalog for its operational payload, keeping bookings, POS and service operations aligned to the intended location menu.
