View Tax Category

Open an existing tax category in the active organisation or location context and check the stored name, percentage, description and country used by product tax handling.

In this article

Tax categories connect catalogue products with the VAT or tax handling they should use. This guide is for checking an existing record, not creating a new one or saving changes.

In the GB demo, use Harbor Demo Group and Harbor Soho, then open a readable VAT category such as VAT 10% when it is present in the seeded runtime.

Before you start

  • The operator is signed in with Harbor Demo Group selected; for location-level viewing, Harbor Soho is selected.
  • The operator has `catalog:view` for the active organisation or location. `catalog:manage` can expose the same screen in the frontend, but the backend detail read still checks catalogue view permission.
  • A readable tax category id exists in the current scope. The GB runtime does not expose `TAX_CATEGORY_ID`, so capture automation must open a row from the list or resolve an id from the tax category API.

Instructions

  1. 1.

    Open Tax Categories

From the location or organisation catalogue area, open the Tax Categories tab. In Harbor Soho, filter for VAT if it helps find the seeded category faster.

  2. 2.

    Choose A Category

Open an existing row from the table or its available View or Edit action. The populated detail route must include a category id; opening the item route without an id starts creation.

  3. 3.

    Review The Fields

Wait for the detail request to finish, then check name, percentage, description and country. These values are the category data products rely on for tax handling.

  4. 4.

    Recognise Access Mode

Use the screen as read-only reference when the operator only has view access, or when the category is inherited or system scoped. If the screen is editable, saving changes belongs to the edit action, not this view-detail action.

  5. 5.

    Return To Catalogue

Use the back action to return to the catalogue context and Tax Categories tab that opened the detail screen.

Validations and limits

  • The detail request should only run when an active scope, a category id and detail access are all available.
  • Readable records can be system scoped, organisation scoped or location scoped when they pass the current catalogue scope checks.
  • The stored percentage is the tax rate to trust operationally; the country comes from `country_code`, with any UI fallback treated only as display behaviour.
  • No save action is required to complete this action.
  • Do not use `/location/catalogs/tax-category-item` or `/organization/catalogs/tax-category-item` without an id as evidence for this action; those routes represent creation.

Expected result

The operator confirms the tax category values used by catalogue products without changing the record.
