How to copy a product

Create a separate product by copying an existing Harbor Soho product, reviewing the prefilled creation form, changing at least one field, and saving it in the current organisation or location scope.

In this article

Copy Product is a catalogue setup shortcut for restaurant teams that reuse similar menu items. It opens a new product form with the source product already loaded, so the manager can review price, product type, tax category, allergens, specifications, kitchen settings, colour, description and image before creating the new record.

This is not a special backend copy action. Antylogic reads the source product, fills the standard product creation form, and then creates a normal product when the user saves.

Before you start

  • Sign in with an organisation selected. For the location flow, select Harbor Soho or another location first.
  • The user needs catalogue management permission in the current scope so the row menu shows Copy and the product can be created.
  • A readable source product must exist in the current scope, such as Cheddar and leek soup, Beef pie or Fish and chips in the GB demo.
  • Before saving, the copied product must have a name, a valid price, a product type and a tax category.
  • Direct links with copyFromId require a real runtime product id. For captures, prefer the row menu so the flow does not depend on a hard-coded product id.

Instructions

  1. 1.

    Open Products

Open the catalogue manager for Harbor Soho and select the Products tab. The list shows products in the current location together with the product types, tax categories, allergens and specifications used by the form.

  2. 2.

    Choose Copy

Open the row menu for the source product, for example Cheddar and leek soup, and choose Copy. The app opens the product form as a new item with copyFromId pointing to the selected product.

  3. 3.

    Review the prefilled product

Check that the form is creating a new product, not editing the original. The proposed name ends with the current copy suffix, (copia), and the copied fields stay editable before saving.

  4. 4.

    Change and validate

Change at least one field before saving, usually the name, and confirm that the price, product type and tax category are correct for the target scope. The copied product name must be unique in the current organisation or location.

  5. 5.

    Create Product

Select Create Product. Antylogic sends the standard product creation request with the copied values and the user changes. On success, it shows the creation notification and returns to the Products tab.

  6. 6.

Add it to a catalogue if needed

The copied product is a new product record, but it is not automatically added to any menu or catalogue. Add it separately if Harbor Soho needs to sell it in Soho Menu or another catalogue.

Validations and limits

  • Copy appears in the row menu only when catalogue creation is allowed in the current scope.
  • The source product must also be readable. If the detail read fails, the form shows an error or not-found state and the copy cannot be saved.
  • This copy mechanism is available for products and catalogues only; it is not shown for product types, tax categories, allergens or specifications.
  • Create Product stays disabled while the copied form has not been changed, even though the values are prefilled.
  • Name, price, product type and tax category are required before the form can be submitted.
  • The price must parse as a decimal and should be greater than zero; negative values are rejected and zero is treated as missing by the backend.
  • A duplicate product name in the same organisation or location scope produces a conflict error.
  • The copied image keeps the same image reference unless the user uploads another image before saving.
  • Copying a product does not insert catalogue membership rows; attach the new product to a catalogue separately.

Expected result

A separate product is created in the current organisation or location scope and the user returns to the Products tab. The original product is unchanged, and catalogue membership is managed in a separate step.
