Configure tables in a floor plan
Create and maintain the tables inside a location layout: draw them in zones, set capacity and shape, duplicate or remove them, then save the complete layout so reservations, table assignment and POS views use the same room model.
In this article
Tables are the working model of the dining room. They belong to zones, can use optional table types, and store the position, size, shape and capacity used across reservations, floor operations and POS views.
Table changes are saved with the whole layout. Keep every table you want to preserve in the editor before pressing Save.
Before you start
- You are signed in with an active organisation and location, such as Harbor Demo Group and Harbor Soho in the GB demo.
- You have layout:view to open the layouts list and layout:manage to create, duplicate, move, resize, edit, delete and save tables.
- A layout is open in the visual editor, or a copied layout is open for safe documentation or training work.
- At least one zone exists before creating a table; the create-table control is disabled when the layout has no zones.
- The complete layout remains valid before saving: layout name, zones, tables, capacities, table types and table combinations must stay coherent.
Instructions
- 1.
Open the layouts list
Open Layouts for the active Harbor Soho location. The list shows floor-plan versions, table count and maximum guest capacity before you enter the editor.
- 2.
Open or copy a layout
Open an existing layout to inspect it, or use a copied layout such as Manual docs copy for training. The copy keeps the visible zones and tables but receives new internal IDs and is not changed until Save is pressed.
- 3.
Check the zones first
Confirm that the plan already has zones on the canvas. Every table must belong to a zone, and saving fails if any zone is left without tables.
- 4.
Create a table
With manage permission, choose the table drawing control, select a shape and drag inside a zone. The editor creates a local table with a generated name, default capacity, the selected shape and no table type until the layout is saved.
- 5.
Edit the selected table
Select a table from the canvas or the Tables tab, such as C2 or B1 in the Harbor Soho demo. Use the selection panel to update name, supplementary-table mode, minimum and maximum capacity, shape, optional table type, position and size.
- 6.
Duplicate, move or resize
Move or resize the selected table on the canvas or through its position and size fields. Duplicating a table creates a new table in the same zone with a new ID, an incremented name and the original table attributes if there is usable space.
- 7.
Delete a table
Select a table, choose Delete and confirm. The editor removes that table locally and removes table combinations that referenced it; the stored layout changes only after Save.
- 8.
Save the complete layout
Press Save after reviewing the full plan. Saving sends the full layout payload and replaces the stored zones, table types, tables and combinations for that layout.
Validations and limits
- Users with layout:view but without layout:manage can view supported layouts but cannot save table changes.
- A normal table must have positive minimum and maximum capacity, with minimum capacity less than or equal to maximum capacity.
- A supplementary table is stored as 0 minimum capacity and 0 maximum capacity and does not add guest capacity by itself.
- Table names must be filled in and unique within the layout.
- A selected table type is optional, but when used it must exist in the same layout.
- Deleting the last table or leaving any zone without tables prevents saving.
- If there is no usable space for a duplicate, the editor shows the copy-no-space error and does not create the copy.
- When a layout already has future service references, updating it can keep a historical snapshot for previous references.
Expected result
The layouts list reflects the saved table count and maximum guest capacity, while reservations, table assignment and POS room views use the updated physical room model.
