Clock In a Staff Member

Use Clock in/out at Harbor Soho to select Olivia Hart, confirm Entry, and open a staff shift with an entry time and no exit time until Exit is recorded later.

In this article

This guide covers the normal clock-in path for a location operator: open Clock in/out, select Olivia Hart, choose Entry, and confirm before Antylogic changes attendance data.

Antylogic prevents duplicate open shifts. If Olivia Hart already has an open shift, Entry changes to the warning path and asks for the previous Exit time before a new Entry can be registered.

Before you start

  • You are signed in to Harbor Demo Group with Harbor Soho selected.
  • Olivia Hart exists as a staff member in Harbor Soho; in the GB documentation runtime she is referenced by `STAFF_ID`.
  • For the normal path, Olivia Hart must not already have an open staff shift without `exit_at`.
  • The user has `staff-shifts:notify` for the location, or is using a valid self-service association for their own staff profile.
  • Use the main `attendance` Clock in/out page, not `attendance/corrections`.

Instructions

  1. 1.

    Open Clock in/out

Open `attendance` for Harbor Soho. For direct documentation captures, open `attendance?staff=${STAFF_ID}` so Olivia Hart is already selected.

  2. 2.

    Select Olivia Hart

Choose Olivia Hart's staff card. The selected card is the one that will receive the Entry action, and it should show Entry and Exit.

  3. 3.

    Choose Entry

Select Entry on the selected card. Antylogic opens the Confirm entry modal for Olivia Hart and keeps Confirm unavailable while the current shift state is still loading.

  4. 4.

    Confirm the entry

Select Confirm. In the normal path, Antylogic records an Entry notification for the selected staff member and opens a staff shift starting at the current time.

  5. 5.

    Check the result

After the save, the modal closes, attendance data refreshes, and the success message is Shift updated with The entry/exit has been recorded.

  6. 6.

    Handle an open shift warning

If Olivia Hart already has an open shift, Entry does not create another normal open shift. Antylogic shows Time correction needed and asks for Exit time so the previous shift can be closed before registering the new Entry.

Validations and limits

  • If no staff member is selected, the app asks the operator to select an employee.
  • Confirm is disabled when the action, selected staff member, or current shift state is not ready.
  • `staff-shifts:view` alone is not enough to register Entry; the action requires `staff-shifts:notify` or an allowed self-service staff association.
  • Self-service clock-in cannot be used for another employee; the route staff id must belong to the authenticated user.
  • Antylogic uses the staff id from the route when saving the shift action.
  • A normal Entry creates one open `staff_shift` calendar event with an entry time and no exit time.
  • Do not present manual `entry_at` variants as part of this flow; those belong to correction or manual-entry paths.
  • Success captures mutate data by creating an open shift and must run with `cleanup_after_run`.

Expected result

Olivia Hart has an open staff shift for Harbor Soho. The attendance queries refresh, the shift remains open until Exit is recorded, and duplicate open shifts are routed into the correction warning path.
