Change the Group Size Metric

Switch the Group size card in the Restaurant performance report between Average time, Average bill, and Average per person. The action changes the visible report metric only; it does not edit tickets, save a preference, or leave the report.

In this article

Use this guide when a reporting user needs to compare how different party sizes affect service duration and spend at Harbor Soho.

The Group size card starts on Average time. The user can change it in place to Average bill or Average per person while staying on the same read-only Restaurant performance report.

Before you start

  • You are signed in with Harbor Demo Group and Harbor Soho selected.
  • Your role has location access through one of reports:view, tpv:view, tpv:use, catalog:view, reservation:view, or staff:view.
  • You can open Reports > Performance > Your restaurant, or the route /:orgId/:locationId/reporting/performance/restaurant.
  • The Restaurant performance report is available and includes the Group size card.
  • To see non-zero bars, the selected periods need qualifying non-void tickets with party_size greater than 0.

Instructions

  1. 1.

    Open the restaurant performance report

Open Reports > Performance > Your restaurant for Harbor Soho. The report loads the selected periods from GET /api/app/{orgId}/{locationId}/reports and shows a status message if a location or permission is missing.

  2. 2.

    Find the Group size card

Scroll to the Group size card after the Restaurant report finishes loading. The card compares party-size bands across the selected report periods.

  3. 3.

    Review Average time

Start with Average time selected. This default view compares the 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8 party-size bands by average bill duration in minutes.

  4. 4.

    Switch to Average bill

Choose Average bill in the Group size selector. The same card updates to show total spend divided by qualifying bills for each group and period, without a save action.

  5. 5.

    Switch to Average per person

Choose Average per person. The card updates in place to show spend per guest, calculated from each qualifying bill total divided by its party size.

  6. 6.

    Compare different periods

Use the report period filters when you need a different comparison window. Changing periods reloads the dashboard data; reopening the report resets the Group size metric to Average time.

Validations and limits

  • The default metric is Average time.
  • Average bill and Average per person use data already returned in the dashboard response; switching between them does not send a write request.
  • Tickets with status void or party_size less than or equal to 0 are excluded.
  • Any party size greater than 6 is included in the 7-8 band.
  • The selected metric is local screen state and is not saved to the URL, backend, or local storage.
  • If the Group size block or selected metric data is missing, the card can render without rows instead of showing a dedicated empty-state panel.
  • The implemented monetary formatting may still appear as euros with comma decimals in the product, even for the GB demo. Verify final captures before publishing localised screenshot copy.

Expected result

The reporting user can compare party-size performance by time, average bill, or average spend per person while staying on the same read-only Restaurant performance report.
