Update staff role
Update an existing staff role by changing the Name, Description or Color values used in the active location. The flow changes role metadata only; it does not assign employees or edit staff records.
In this article
Use this guide when a location manager needs to keep operational role labels clear and easy to scan.
The update starts from the Employee roles table, opens the role detail, edits the role metadata, and saves after Antylogic checks that the required name and colour are present.
Before you start
- You are signed in with an active organisation and location.
- The staff role already exists in the selected location.
- You have `staff-roles:view` to open the role detail.
- You have `staff-roles:manage` to edit fields and save changes.
Instructions
- 1.
Open Employee roles
From staff management, switch to the Employee roles tab. The table shows existing roles for the active location, including Name, Description, Employees and the Edit entry point.
- 2.
Open the role detail
Select the role or use Edit. Antylogic opens the role detail screen and loads the current Name, Description and Color values for that role.
- 3.
Edit role metadata
Change the name, description or colour. Name and colour are required. Description is optional and is not saved as an effective value when it is left blank after trimming spaces.
- 4.
Save the update
Select Save. Antylogic sends the updated name, optional description and colour for the role from the route, refreshes role data, shows `Role updated`, and returns to staff management.
Validations and limits
- Save stays disabled until the name has content, a colour is selected, and at least one editable value has changed.
- Users with `staff-roles:view` but without `staff-roles:manage` can open the detail in read-only mode, but cannot submit an update.
- The backend checks `staff-roles:manage`, rejects an empty name after trimming spaces, and verifies that the role belongs to the active location.
- The effective role id comes from the route; editable form data does not choose which role is updated.
- This update does not assign employees, remove employees, edit `location_id`, or change `created_at`.
- The Delete control visible on the same screen belongs to the staff role deletion action, not this update flow.
Expected result
The staff role metadata is updated for the active location, the role list and detail are refreshed, and the operator returns to Employee roles with the saved confirmation.
