Split an Item Into a New Service Pass

Move part of an editable TPV ticket item into the next service pass while keeping the remaining quantity on the original item.

In this article

Use this action when the kitchen needs the same item paced across service passes. The operator keeps the original ticket line on its current pass and creates a second line for the quantity that should move to the next pass.

The action is available from the TPV item editor when KDS is enabled and the item is still editable for production. In the Harbor Soho demo, prepare a live TPV ticket handled by Olivia Hart with a kitchen item such as Fish and chips or Beef pie only when the runtime confirms quantity greater than 1.

Before you start

  • The operator is signed in with the organisation and location selected, for example Harbor Demo Group and Harbor Soho.
  • The operator has TPV access for the active location. Item edits require tpv:use on the active service session or tickets:manage.
  • The TPV ticket belongs to the current location and is not closed or void.
  • KDS is enabled for the location; the split action is only shown when KDS is active.
  • The selected item has quantity greater than 1 and is not in sent, preparing or ready production status.
  • If the item carries a discount amount, the operator also has tickets:manage or tpv:discount.

Instructions

  1. 1.

    Open the TPV ticket

Open the ticket from the floor view or the direct ticket detail route. For captures, use TPV_TICKET_ID with TPV_TERMINAL_ID and TPV_STAFF_ID in the Harbor Soho runtime.

  2. 2.

    Choose an editable kitchen item

Tap a ticket item that has more than one unit and is still before the locked kitchen stages. Avoid paid, closed, void, sent, preparing and ready items.

  3. 3.

    Open the item editor

The quick editor shows the item quantity, production status, service pass information, notes and item actions. The split action may currently appear with the Spanish fallback label Dividir en dos pases.

  4. 4.

    Start the split

Choose the split action. The quantity modal opens with a default value equal to half of the current quantity, rounded down.

  5. 5.

Confirm the quantity for the new pass

Enter an integer from 1 up to one less than the item quantity, or keep the default when it is valid, then confirm with Split. Cancelling the modal leaves the ticket unchanged.

  6. 6.

    Review the pass result

The original item stays on its current service pass with the remaining quantity. A new ticket item is inserted after it with the split quantity and the next service pass number.

  7. 7.

    Continue the kitchen workflow

Send or advance the split items through the normal production controls. The split itself does not send items to the kitchen output queue.

Validations and limits

  • The split action is disabled when KDS is off, an item mutation is running, quantity is 1 or lower, or the item is not editable.
  • The quantity input keeps digits only and accepts values from 1 to one less than the current item quantity.
  • If the original ticket item no longer exists before confirmation, the app cancels the split.
  • If reducing the original item fails, the new item is not created.
  • The save happens in two steps: if reducing the original item succeeds but creating the new item fails, the original item can remain reduced until corrected.
  • The new item keeps the copied product, seat, guest, taxes, name, notes, unit price, discount label, production status and payment status from the original item where available.
  • Any discount amount is split proportionally between the remaining quantity and the quantity moved to the new pass.
  • The split uses item update and item add operations; kitchen output jobs are triggered later by production status changes, not by the split.

Expected result

The ticket keeps the original item on its current pass with the remaining quantity and adds a copied item on the next service pass. Item amounts and ticket totals are recalculated after the ticket mutations.
